Locals (like us) will tell you Melbourne’s heart beats in its laneways, hidden bars, markets, bookstores and music scene.
If you’re new to Melbourne, you’ll want to find these gems straight away. And if you arrive in summer, there is no better way to get to know us than by visiting the Suzuki Night Markets.
Located on the north edge of Melbourne’s City Centre, during the day and on weekends the markets are a typical fresh food market, where much of the focus is on ingredients.
But every Wednesday night in summer, the markets welcome a cooler crowd who flock to its local designer stalls, live music and smorgasbord of international foods.
We were there last week and loved the sangria, chorizo, wooden jewellery and the middle eastern mezze plate.
Finding a seat may prove a little difficult but you won’t be worried when you are a part of this colourful Melbourne experience.
The event is for over 18’s only, which is Australia’s legal age for drinking. Alcohol can be purchased inside the market, and people are able to roam easily with a drink in hand.
Rain, hail or shine, the night markets are neatly under cover which plays perfectly to Melbourne’s often unpredictable weather.
In terms of parking, you won’t have any issues here. You can park your Melbourne car hire in the markets’ official car park for a flat rate of $6.
Traffic wise, you’re best to head in after 7pm once the after-work congestion clears.
The Suzuki Night Markets’ season dates are available on its website.
