Bulges in your tyre walls are VERY dangerous (normally happens when you hit a curb or the like at mod/high speeds) - though $185 pounds is far excessive for a tyre....what were you driving? a Lamborghini?

Be aware when hiring a car particularly from Europcar that you make sure not only are there no dents on the car that are not written on your agreement but also check the tyres. I had a bulge in a tyre - didn't realise it was an issue (read dangerous) was advised some time into my journey by relatives that it was and needed replacing. Paid 185 pounds for a new one and Europcar wouldn't come to the party as I hadn't notified them of this within the first 24 hours of hire. I didn't know the bulge was a problem - they gave the car to me in an unsafe condition and I drove it for 1000 miles before I found out that it could have caused a blow out!! No more Europcar for me - had a problem with them in Australia too.
