Once you’ve organised your car hire and travel insurance, the only other significant cost to your European road trip is petrol.
Before you get behind the wheel, consider how many km/miles you plan on covering.
Sites like http://www.karzoo.eu/en/petrol-prices and http://www.aaireland.ie/petrolprices/ are sure to help you in your search for rough petrol calculations. The sites display average petrol prices that are up-to-date, to help you budget the cost of your car trip.
Remember, most car hire companies require you to fill your tank with petrol before drop-off. Some even offer you the chance to pre-purchase petrol at a discounted rate from the collection desk – that way you don’t have to worry about it.
Read your car rental agreement to see if this applies to you.
Webcarhire has plenty of cars for hire in Europe. Find a car now.
It is over 1$ a litr now. Depends where you driving though.
Just paid an average of 1.16 euro/liter ($US5.41/gallon) for diesel in France over the last four weeks. This was at Le Clerc or Intermarche Supermarkets where the price was approx. $0.10/liter cheaper than other gas stations. Auto-route prices are generally higher still. Spain(Barcelona)was 1.12 euro/liter ($US5.22/gall) again at a ‘discount’ station.
Tip 1: Look for ‘long distance overnight truck-park’ locations. There will generally be cheaper prices closeby.
Tip 2: Always check if your Credit Card is accepted before filling up. US issued MasterCards (& others that do not have the embedded chip) are not accepted in many places especially at the ‘automatic’ pumps. Can be a bit of a problem late at night.
